Euboea-Boeotia-Skyrosstarting from Byzantium

Castello Rosso

The castle of Karystos, the most important monument of the Latin occupation of south Euboea, was founded by the local Lombard lords, the dalle Carceri, in the 13th century.

The catholicon of the Holy Monastery of Hoisos Loukas

The light scattered by the windows in the dome on the mosaics of the Byzantine church accentuates the transcendental atmosphere of the space.

Skyros Castle

For thousands of years, Skyros Castle was the heart of the island, and was in continuous occupation from Mycenaean times until the 19th century. Today, it is the most prominent monument in the town of Skyros.

Agia Paraskevi, Chalkis

One of the oldest surviving wooden roofs from medieval Europe covers the three-aisled gothic basilica which once belonged to the Dominican order and is known today as Agia Paraskevi.

The Holy Monastery of Panagia Skripous

The monastery was founded in 873/4, by an official of the Byzantine Empire. Its architectural type, its size and the extent and quality of its sculpted decoration, mark the start of a period of great economic and social prosperity in Boeotia.
