On the trail of the Byzantine churches of central Euboea

The aim of the trip is to learn more about the important monuments of central Euboea. Starting in Chalkis and heading towards south Euboea, it is recommended that you make your first stop in Amarynthos, at the church of Panagitsa of Ano Vatheia. The next stop is in at the church of Agios Dimitrios in Makrychori.
Then it is suggested that you stop at Panagia in Spilies, a church with very important murals,

followed by a visit to Oxylithos and the church of Agios Nikolaos of Ritzanoi, a recently restored monument.

You can make another stop in Oxylithos at the church of Agia Anna. The next stop is in Metamorfosi in Pyrgi and the tour ends a few minutes later at the impressive church of Agios Dimitrios in Chania in Avlonari.

Many inscriptions have been preserved in this church, which were placed there following individual or group donations, a common custom of the time (14th century) and the specific area.
